This is a collaboration between the NeuroNarratives art-neuroscience residency, the Art of Neuroscience platform, and Waag Futurelab.
We are delighted to invite you to our upcoming art-neuroscience symposium and exhibition, taking place at Waag Futurelab in Amsterdam from 2–4 October 2026.
Bringing together artists, neuroscientists, researchers, and the wider public, this three-day event is a collaboration between NeuroNarratives, Art of Neuroscience, and Waag Futurelab. Together, we invite you to explore how art and neuroscience can meet to challenge perspectives, create new forms of knowledge, and open conversations about the brain, mind, and society.
The programme includes the NeuroNarratives exhibition, showcasing works developed through a year-long art-neuroscience residency, alongside the Art of Neuroscience symposium and the announcement of the 2026 Art of Neuroscience competition winners.

NeuroNarratives was initiated around a set of profound questions: Can understanding the brain bring meaningful change to society? Can knowledge of how our brains and minds work challenge our beliefs, confront our biases, and reshape how we think?
The art-neuroscience residency explores these questions by bringing artists and neuroscientists together in horizontal collaborations. Over the past year, participating pairs have transformed complex scientific ideas and findings into original, experiential works of art, which will come together in this exhibition at Waag Futurelab.
Art of Neuroscienc
Founded in 2011 at the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience, part of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, Art of Neuroscience is an international platform exploring the convergence of art, technology, and neuroscience.
Through its annual art-neuroscience competition and symposium, the platform brings together diverse perspectives on how we investigate, represent, and understand the brain. During this year’s symposium, the winners of the 2026 Art of Neuroscience competition will also be announced.
Waag Futurelab
Waag Futurelab is a public research institute and cultural space based in Amsterdam’s historic Waag building on Nieuwmarkt. Working with a transdisciplinary team of designers, artists, and scientists, Waag strengthens critical reflection on technology, develops technological and social design skills, and stimulates social innovation.
